Our story
Located in the heart of Yasu, Shiga, Uomaru is a seafood izakaya where fresh fish and carefully selected sake meet the craft of robatayaki grilling.
Sashimi finished by skilled hands from fish delivered straight from the port, bonito from Kochi, and Omi beef from Shiga — grilled dynamically right before you over straw and charcoal.
A calm Japanese space with lively counter seats and relaxing private rooms — for dates, family dinners, and company banquets alike.
Commitment
In spring, young 2-3kg first-catch bonito; in autumn, richly fatty 4-5kg returning bonito, carefully selected by season.
Most Kochi bonito is pole-and-line caught, leaving it beautiful and undamaged. We ship our select bonito direct from the port.
We use straw hand-cut ourselves from vast contracted fields in Shiga. Dried straw burns hot with the finest smoky aroma.
Over straw flames reaching 1000 degrees, we sear a crust about 5mm into the flesh, then finish with residual heat to lock in flavor.
Cut over 1cm thick so the straw aroma fills your mouth, brimming with bonito flavor and a springy texture.
A fully sun-dried salt handmade by artisans from Kochi seawater. We select larger crystals for a mellow mineral taste.

How to enjoy Robata
How to enjoy straw-grilling and robata
Thirteen counter seats, twelve table seats, eight in the private room and twelve on the terrace: 45 in all. In a room this size, the flames and the crackle of the straw reach every seat.
The finished surface carries the smoke of burning straw. Leave the first slice unseasoned and taste the natural sweetness underneath.
Later in the plate, shift with condiments, rock salt and citrus. Winter brings kanburi yellowtail, whose fat loosens and lightens against salt and citrus.
Every seat, including the twelve on the terrace, allows smoking. Our staff suggest Shiga sake, dry through sweet, to match your sashimi or straw-grilled dish.

In this article, we will provide tips, with specific examples, to help you find the perfect space for you among our many private rooms.
As a Yasu Station pub, our easily accessible location is one of our strengths. From a casual drink after work to leisurely enjoying our Yasu seafood dishes, our signature Yasu robatayaki, and a wide selection of Yasu sake centered on Shiga's local brews—why not experience it all in a private room where you can relax to your heart's content?
When many customers hear private room, they might first imagine large-scale Yasu banquets or business entertainment. Of course, we have ideal private rooms for such purposes, but their charm doesn't stop there.
However, we sometimes hear about small gaps between customer expectations and their actual experience, such as I booked a private room, but it was smaller than I thought, I was bothered by the voices from the next room, or It felt a bit too formal for a family gathering. This often happens when a room is chosen without fully understanding its type and characteristics.
We strongly wish to provide the best private room experience for our customers. To ensure you spend your time at our Yasu Izakaya in the best possible space, the key points for choosing a room change significantly depending on the purpose and the number of people. In the next chapter, we will specifically introduce the variations of private rooms that Kitano Izakaya prides itself on and how to choose the optimal one for each scene.
At Kitano Izakaya, we offer private rooms with different atmospheres to meet the diverse needs of our customers. Here, we introduce how to use our private rooms for each specific occasion.
For celebrating an anniversary, a special time on a Yasu date, or a night of deep conversation with close friends, our semi-private rooms, which offer a sense of privacy without feeling enclosed, are highly recommended.
Features: You can relax in a calm atmosphere without worrying about the gazes of other customers. The lighting is slightly dimmed, creating a comfortable space that encourages conversation.
Example Scenarios: Wedding anniversaries, birthday celebrations, catching up with old friends, business dinners where you want to enjoy a meal slowly, etc.
Recommended Way to Enjoy: Savor our rich lineup of Yasu sake while enjoying an assortment of fresh fish delivered directly from the fishing port. It's the perfect environment for discussing recent happenings or future dreams. Our staff will provide attentive service without disturbing you.
For families with small children, three-generation meals, or relative get-togethers, our spacious sunken-kotatsu (horigotatsu) private rooms are extremely convenient. They are popular because you can stretch out your legs, making even long stays comfortable.
Features: The sunken-kotatsu seating is easy for children to sit at, allowing you to enjoy your meal with peace of mind. Some rooms have space to place a stroller next to you, so please feel free to ask when booking. A key benefit is that you don't have to worry too much about being a little noisy.
Example Scenarios: Celebrations for school entrance, first meal ceremonies (okuizome), meals after a shrine visit (omiyamairi), meeting the parents, birthday parties, etc.
Recommended Way to Enjoy: Easy-to-share dishes like our assorted Yasu robatayaki or the luxurious seared Yasu Omi beef are popular. We also have a children's menu, so the whole family can enjoy a time filled with smiles. We can also provide extra plates and children's chairs upon request.
For wrap-up parties with work colleagues, get-togethers with groups of friends, or club gatherings where you want to have a lively time, our mid-sized private rooms—which maintain a sense of unity while allowing for private conversations—are perfect for a Yasu banquet.
Features: These rooms can accommodate about 10 to 20 people, and the entire room is visible, making it easy for the organizer to manage the event. It's a space where laughter can echo freely without worrying about other customers.
Example Scenarios: Welcome parties, farewell parties, year-end parties (bonenkai), New Year parties (shinnenkai), social gatherings, regular meetups with hobby groups, etc.
Recommended Way to Enjoy: Using a Yasu Banquet Course with an all-you-can-drink option reduces the burden on the organizer. Enjoy seasonal Yasu seafood dishes, a rich Yasu robatayaki menu, and a tasting comparison of Yasu sake, focusing on local Shiga brews. As a go-to Yasu organizer's izakaya, we will also support a smooth event flow.

With smoking rules becoming stricter in recent years, we strive to create an environment where both smokers and non-smokers can comfortably spend time in the same space.
Features: We can guide you to smoking-permitted private rooms or rooms adjacent to a smoking booth, depending on your preference. This allows smokers to enjoy a cigarette without leaving their seat or interrupting conversations with their companions.
Example Scenarios: For Yasu banquets or parties where there are smokers in the group, or for when you want to relax and have a smoke in private.
Recommended Way to Enjoy: Regardless of smoking preference, you can enjoy our exquisite Yasu seafood and Yasu robatayaki dishes, as well as a wide variety of Yasu sake in all our private rooms. Clarify the number of guests: The size of the room we can offer depends on how many people will be attending. Please provide an accurate number.
Decide on the date and time: Private rooms tend to get booked up quickly, especially on weekends, holidays, and during the major Yasu banquet seasons (year-end/New Year parties). We recommend booking early.
Specify your desired room type: Let us know your preferred atmosphere and purpose, such as a semi-private room for a date, a sunken-kotatsu room for family, a mid-sized room for a Yasu banquet, or a large room as a Yasu private buyout izakaya.
State the purpose of your visit: If you tell us the occasion—birthday, anniversary, business entertainment, farewell party, etc.—it will be easier for us to suggest suitable dishes and services.
Consider a Yasu Banquet Course: For larger groups or when the organizer is unsure what to order, a Yasu Banquet Course with all-you-can-drink is very convenient. We have several options to suit different budgets and tastes.
Inform us of any allergies or dietary restrictions: If you let us know in advance, we can adjust the menu to ensure all guests can enjoy their meal safely.
Mention smoking preferences: As a Yasu smoking-permitted izakaya, we can guide you to a suitable room if there are smokers in your party. Please mention this when booking.
Discuss any special requests: If you have any special requests, such as a surprise cake, a message plate, or flower arrangements, please don't hesitate to ask. We will do our best to assist you.
