Commitment

1

The size of the bonito

In spring, young 2-3kg first-catch bonito; in autumn, richly fatty 4-5kg returning bonito, carefully selected by season.

2

Raw bonito from Kochi

Most Kochi bonito is pole-and-line caught, leaving it beautiful and undamaged. We ship our select bonito direct from the port.

3

Straw from Shiga

We use straw hand-cut ourselves from vast contracted fields in Shiga. Dried straw burns hot with the finest smoky aroma.

4

The grilling

Over straw flames reaching 1000 degrees, we sear a crust about 5mm into the flesh, then finish with residual heat to lock in flavor.

5

The thickness of the cut

Cut over 1cm thick so the straw aroma fills your mouth, brimming with bonito flavor and a springy texture.

6

Our chosen salt

A fully sun-dried salt handmade by artisans from Kochi seawater. We select larger crystals for a mellow mineral taste.

Service

01

Robata & Warayaki

How to enjoy Robata

Robata Story

01

A 45 seat room puts you near the fire

Thirteen counter seats, twelve table seats, eight in the private room and twelve on the terrace: 45 in all. In a room this size, the flames and the crackle of the straw reach every seat.

02

Nothing added, just the ingredient

The finished surface carries the smoke of burning straw. Leave the first slice unseasoned and taste the natural sweetness underneath.

03

In winter, cold yellowtail with salt and citrus

Later in the plate, shift with condiments, rock salt and citrus. Winter brings kanburi yellowtail, whose fat loosens and lightens against salt and citrus.

04

A cigarette and a cup, out to the terrace

Every seat, including the twelve on the terrace, allows smoking. Our staff suggest Shiga sake, dry through sweet, to match your sashimi or straw-grilled dish.

Solving the Organizer's Dilemma! The Hidden Anxieties of a Special Night

I want to ensure this important business dinner is a success. I want to create a memorable anniversary. I want to host a banquet in Yasu that everyone will genuinely enjoy. — Organizers and planners striving for these goals often face unseen pressures.

  • The difficulty of choosing a venue: Selecting a restaurant requires considering numerous factors, such as What's the atmosphere like?, Will the food suit everyone's tastes?, and Is privacy guaranteed?. Especially for business entertainment, the choice of venue is crucial to show respect to your guest.
  • Concerns about the menu: Choosing a menu that satisfies everyone is a major challenge, especially when accommodating preferences, allergies, or dietary restrictions. The number of courses, portion sizes, and serving times are also important factors that influence the flow of the event.
  • Anxiety about the day's proceedings: Organizers often worry about whether the event will run smoothly, from prompt drink service and the pacing of the food to the timing of any surprises. It's also wise to confirm beforehand if the venue can flexibly handle unexpected issues.
  • Balancing with the budget: Of course, a pressing issue for any organizer is whether they can provide the best experience within their budget. It requires finding a plan that strikes a good balance between price and quality.

These hidden anxieties can often make preparing for a special night feel burdensome. But rest assured. As a private izakaya in Yasu available for exclusive hire, we will address each of these challenges, reduce the organizer's burden, and produce a night that all attendees can thoroughly enjoy.

The Ultimate Omotenashi (Hospitality) Our Private Yasu Izakaya Delivers

We set ourselves apart from typical bars near Yasu Station by providing a private space just for you and your guests. An environment where you can enjoy conversation and savor your meal without worrying about the surrounding noise or other customers is perhaps the most crucial element for business dinners and anniversaries.

Spend valuable time deepening your relationship with your counterpart in a calm atmosphere. For those seeking a smoking-friendly izakaya in Yasu, our private space allows your group to set its own smoking rules for a more comfortable experience.

We have paid close attention to the spatial design, creating a soothing atmosphere where traditional Japanese aesthetics blend with modern sensibilities, reflecting our heritage as a Kitano izakaya. Every detail, down to the lighting, is carefully considered to make your stay even more special.

2. Exquisite Yasu Banquet Courses Weaving Together Shiga's Bounty and Seafood Treasures

Cuisine is one of the main attractions of a special evening. We offer a variety of visually stunning and delicious dishes that generously feature seafood from Yasu and other proud specialties of Shiga. We cherish the seasonal flavors, treating our guests to the finest ingredients of the moment.

  • The Splendor of Fresh Fish Direct from the Port: Sourced every morning from trusted fishing ports, our fresh fish boasts a level of freshness and quality that is the essence of Yasu seafood. The firm, translucent flesh, the melt-in-your-mouth umami, and the rich, seasonal aromas are truly gems of the sea. Our skilled chefs carefully prepare each fish, serving it as sashimi to maximize its natural flavor, but also as seared, simmered, or grilled dishes to suit your preference. At a private banquet, you can gather around a large platter and indulge in luxurious seafood that you wouldn't typically experience.
  • The Ultimate Yasu Omi Beef Experience: Shiga's treasure, Yasu Omi beef, is renowned for its tender, melt-in-your-mouth texture and the elegant sweetness of its fat. We offer carefully selected cuts prepared in various ways to bring out the full potential of Omi beef. Our Yasu robatayaki (charcoal grill) is particularly special, as we grill it quickly over high heat to create a fragrant exterior while keeping the inside juicy. The aroma of the charcoal whets the appetite, and the feeling of bliss upon the first bite is exceptional. You can fully enjoy the depth of Omi beef through dishes like steak, seared sushi, and Hoba-yaki (grilled on a magnolia leaf).
  • A Perfect Pairing with Yasu Japanese Sake: To further enhance the flavor of our cuisine, we offer a carefully selected range of Yasu Japanese sake. We have a wide lineup, from local brews to rare bottles from across the country. We can also suggest sake pairings for each dish, so please feel free to ask. For those who don't drink alcohol, we also offer non-alcoholic drinks made with seasonal fruits and a selection of fine teas.
